XXL Symphyllia
The XXL Symphyllia is an impressive large polyp stony (LPS) coral, offering serious size and presence for established reef aquariums. Often referred to as a Brain Coral, Symphyllia develop thick, fleshy tissue across distinctive winding ridges and valleys, creating a bold centrepiece for the lower areas of a reef.
This XXL-sized specimen is an excellent choice for reef keepers looking for a substantial feature coral rather than a small frag. When fully expanded, Symphyllia can develop a beautifully inflated, fleshy appearance that really stands out under reef aquarium lighting.

Lighting: Moderate – approximately 100–200 PAR
Water Flow: Low to moderate, indirect flow
Placement: Sandbed or lower rockwork
Temperament: Aggressive
Feeding: Photosynthetic, but benefits from occasional targeted feeding
Place Symphyllia on the sandbed or stable lower rockwork where its delicate fleshy tissue won't be damaged. Avoid strong, direct flow that causes the tissue to remain retracted.
Symphyllia can extend sweeper tentacles at night, so provide plenty of clearance between it and neighbouring corals. Occasional target feeding with suitable meaty coral foods can also help support healthy growth and condition.
As with all LPS corals, stable reef parameters are important, particularly alkalinity, calcium and magnesium.
