Aquarium Placement
Ultra Scolymia generally perform best on the sandbed or low in the aquarium, away from intense lighting.
Provide gentle, indirect water movement that allows the large fleshy polyp to fully inflate without being continually pushed around.
Avoid sharp rockwork directly against the tissue, as the inflated polyp can extend well beyond the underlying skeleton.
Feeding
Although photosynthetic, Scolymia respond extremely well to occasional target feeding.
Suitable foods include:
- Mysis shrimp
- Quality LPS coral pellets
- Finely chopped marine foods
- Small pieces of meaty seafood
- Dedicated coral foods
Target feeding once or twice per week can help maintain strong tissue condition and healthy inflation.
A True Feature Coral
Unlike branching or encrusting corals, Scolymia consists primarily of one large solitary polyp, giving each specimen an individual appearance.
Exceptional specimens can display complex mixes of colour, streaking, mottling and contrasting centres, which is why unusual morphs can become highly desirable collector corals.
Give the coral a few inches of clearance from neighbouring livestock to prevent accidental contact and tissue damage.

Aim for stable reef conditions around:
Calcium: 420–440 ppm
Alkalinity: 8–9 dKH
Magnesium: 1300–1400 ppm
Stable salinity, temperature and nutrient levels are equally important.
