Toxic Green Mouth Lobophyllia
The Toxic Green Mouth Lobophyllia is a striking fleshy LPS coral featuring large inflated polyps with vivid toxic-green centres that stand out beautifully under reef lighting.
Commonly known as a Lobo or Lobed Brain Coral, Lobophyllia develops a chunky, pillow-like appearance as its fleshy tissue expands over the skeleton. Its bold colour contrast and substantial size make it an excellent feature coral for the foreground of an established reef aquarium.

Aquarium Placement
Toxic Green Mouth Lobophyllia performs best in the lower areas of the aquarium, either on the sandbed or securely positioned on lower rockwork.
Provide gentle, indirect flow that keeps detritus from settling without aggressively moving the coral's fleshy tissue.
Avoid very strong lighting or direct flow, as both can cause the coral to remain retracted or potentially damage the tissue.
Feeding
Although Lobophyllia receives much of its energy through photosynthesis, it is an enthusiastic feeder and benefits from regular supplemental feeding.
Suitable foods include:
- Mysis shrimp
- Enriched brine shrimp
- LPS coral pellets
- Finely chopped marine foods
- Quality meaty coral foods
Target feeding once or twice per week can help encourage healthy tissue expansion, growth and colour.
Give It Some Space
Lobophyllia can extend short sweeper tentacles at night, so allow adequate clearance from neighbouring corals.
Its fleshy polyps can also inflate considerably beyond the visible skeleton, so account for this expansion when choosing its permanent position.

Alkalinity: 8–9 dKH
Magnesium: 1300–1400 ppm
Stable salinity, temperature and nutrient levels are equally important for maintaining healthy tissue and strong colouration.
