Gold Alveopora
The Gold Alveopora is a beautiful flowing LPS coral featuring long, flower-like polyps with warm gold colouration that looks particularly impressive under reef lighting.
Closely related in appearance to Goniopora, Alveopora produces delicate polyps that extend well beyond the skeleton and gently sway with the current. This creates fantastic movement within the aquarium and makes it an excellent feature coral for the lower areas of an established reef.

Alveopora vs Goniopora
Alveopora and Goniopora can look very similar, but there is an easy way to tell them apart.
Alveopora typically has 12 tentacle tips on each polyp, while Goniopora typically has 24.
Alveopora is also generally regarded as somewhat more forgiving than Goniopora, although it still performs best in a mature, stable reef aquarium.
Aquarium Placement
Gold Alveopora prefers gentle, indirect water movement that allows its long polyps to sway naturally.
Avoid strong direct flow, as this can cause the coral to remain retracted or damage its delicate fleshy tissue.
Lower-to-middle placement generally works well, with enough surrounding room for the polyps to fully extend.
Feeding
Although photosynthetic, Alveopora can benefit from regular access to fine suspended foods.
Suitable foods include:
- Fine coral foods
- Phytoplankton blends
- Zooplankton-based foods
- Fine powdered reef foods
- Amino acid supplements
Small feedings once or twice per week can help support healthy polyp extension and growth.
Stable Reef Conditions
Gold Alveopora performs best when water parameters remain consistent.

- Salinity
- Temperature
- Nitrate and phosphate
Avoid repeatedly moving the coral once it has settled, as Alveopora can take time to adjust to changes in lighting and flow.
