Is Aqua One Australian River Sand Good for Aquarium Plants?
Yes! Aqua One Australian River Sand can be used in planted aquariums, particularly those featuring easy-care plants such as Cryptocoryne, Vallisneria and Amazon Swords.
However, unlike nutrient-rich aquasoils, Australian River Sand does not contain significant nutrients for plant growth. For heavily planted aquariums, we recommend supplementing with aquarium root fertiliser tablets to ensure your plants receive the nutrients they need.
How to Use Aqua One Australian River Sand
-
Thoroughly rinse the sand with clean water before adding it to your aquarium.
-
Spread the sand evenly across the aquarium bottom.
-
Add your aquarium rocks, driftwood and other decorations.
-
Plant any aquatic plants, using root fertiliser tablets where required.
-
Fill the aquarium slowly to minimise disturbance and cloudiness.
Simply Fish Tip: Sand is particularly good for aquariums containing Corydoras and other bottom-dwelling fish. These species naturally spend much of their time searching through the substrate for food, making sand a great way to encourage their natural behaviour.
