The Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus carpenteri) is a stunning, active reef fish known for its brilliant colouration and spectacular display behaviour.
Juveniles and females generally display softer orange and red tones with blue markings, while mature males develop much stronger yellow, orange and red colouration with vivid blue striping and elongated dorsal fin rays.
When displaying, males can intensify their colours dramatically and extend their fins, giving these fish their well-earned “Flasher Wrasse” name.
Aquarium Care
Carpenter's Flasher Wrasses are best suited to established marine and reef aquariums with plenty of swimming room and rockwork for shelter.
EMA recommends an aquarium of at least 55 gallons, or approximately 210 litres.
They are generally peaceful and should ideally be housed with similarly peaceful marine fish. More aggressive tankmates can intimidate flasher wrasses and prevent them from displaying their natural behaviour.
