Captive Bred Ocellaris Clownfish
The Captive Bred Ocellaris Clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris) is one of the most recognisable and popular marine fish in the aquarium hobby. With its bright orange body, contrasting white bands and black edging, it brings instant colour and personality to almost any saltwater aquarium.
Captive-bred Ocellaris Clownfish are an excellent choice for both newer and experienced marine keepers. They are accustomed to aquarium life, readily accept prepared foods and are generally hardy once properly acclimated.

Full Bar – the classic Ocellaris pattern with three complete white body bands.

Misbar – features incomplete, reduced or irregular white bands, giving each fish a more individual appearance.
Misbar patterning varies naturally between individual fish, so no two specimens will look exactly the same.

Aquarium Care
Ocellaris Clownfish are suitable for established reef aquariums and fish-only marine systems.
They can be kept individually or as a compatible pair. When kept as a pair, the larger and more dominant fish will develop into the female.
Clownfish often establish a favourite section of the aquarium and can become increasingly territorial around this area as they mature, particularly if spawning.
Do They Need an Anemone?
No. Ocellaris Clownfish do not require an anemone to thrive.
While they may naturally associate with anemones, captive-bred clownfish will happily live without one and may instead choose a coral, cave, rockwork or even aquarium equipment as their preferred territory.
Feeding
Ocellaris Clownfish are enthusiastic feeders and readily accept a wide range of marine foods, including:
- Quality marine pellets
- Marine flakes
- Frozen mysis shrimp
- Enriched brine shrimp
- Frozen marine blends
- Finely chopped seafood
A varied diet will help support healthy growth, body condition and strong colour development.
