Aquarium Placement
Pineapple Brain Coral performs particularly well in the lower areas of the reef, making it an excellent way to add strong colour to sections of the aquarium that receive less intense lighting.
Place the colony on the sandbed or secure lower rockwork with gentle-to-moderate indirect water movement. Avoid strong direct flow, which can prevent the fleshy polyps from fully expanding.
Feeding
While photosynthetic, Acan Lords respond extremely well to supplemental feeding and can show excellent growth when fed regularly.
Suitable foods include:
- Mysis shrimp
- LPS coral pellets
- Enriched brine shrimp
- Finely chopped marine foods
- Dedicated coral foods
Target feeding once or twice per week can help encourage healthy tissue growth and the development of additional polyps.
Bright Red & Green Colour
The contrasting bright red and green colouration gives this colony excellent visibility under reef aquarium lighting, while the large fleshy polyps add plenty of texture.
As the coral becomes established, new polyps can gradually develop around the outer edges, creating an increasingly impressive colony.
Give It Some Space
Acan Lords can extend short sweeper tentacles, particularly after lights out, so leave several centimetres of space between the colony and neighbouring corals.
Stable calcium, alkalinity, magnesium, salinity and nutrient levels will help maintain healthy growth, full polyp inflation and strong colour.
